Employee Spotlight: Kathy Di Tomaso
With decades of experience in document imaging and records management, Kathy Di Tomaso has seen the industry evolve from the era of microfilm to digital scanning technologies today. Her journey reflects not only the transformation of the field but also the dedication, teamwork, and attention to detail that define the work we do at Consentia every day.
A Career That Spans the Evolution of Document Imaging
Kathy’s journey in the industry began in 1981 in Edmonton, when she started working with Deines Microfilm, the original company Consentia traces its roots to since the beginning. Nearly a decade later, in 1990, she transferred to Vancouver, where she continued building her expertise and expanding her role within the organization.
Her introduction to the profession came through a personal connection.
“My mom worked in the field and told me about what she was doing,” Kathy recalls. “I was interested in doing the same.”
What began as a simple curiosity quickly turned into a long and fulfilling career. Over the years, Kathy has taken on many different responsibilities, learning each stage of the workflow and developing a deep understanding of the industry. Through hard work and experience, she eventually worked her way into a supervisory role, helping oversee projects and supporting the team’s daily operations.
Throughout her career, Kathy has experienced firsthand how dramatically the industry has changed.
Early in her career, much of the work involved microfilming documents and large-format plans. This meant carefully preparing records, operating specialized cameras to capture images, and processing film once the documents were recorded. Today, the work has largely transitioned to digital scanning, quality control, and final job completion, allowing organizations to manage and access their information more efficiently than ever before.
Despite the technological evolution, the fundamentals of the job have remained the same—care, precision, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
“It’s been a lot of hard work and long days,” Kathy says. “But I enjoy it most when I’m busy and tackling new challenges.”
Supporting the Team and Keeping Projects Moving
In her current role as a Senior Team Lead, Kathy plays an important part in ensuring that projects move forward smoothly and efficiently.
Her day typically begins by reviewing the status of ongoing jobs and checking in with the team to see where each project stands. From there, she helps coordinate work across the department, making sure the team has what they need and stepping in whenever issues arise that need attention.
Her years of experience allow her to quickly identify potential challenges and help keep operations running smoothly.
One of the aspects Kathy values most about her role is the relationships she has built with her colleagues over the years.
“The people I work with are great,” she says. “I’ve made many friends here.”
She also finds it especially rewarding to see a project successfully completed and to hear from clients who are happy with the final results.
“When customers are pleased with the final product and give positive feedback, that always feels good.”
Lessons Learned Over the Years
With decades of experience in the industry, Kathy has learned that success often comes down to the fundamentals: patience, teamwork, and communication.
“A good lesson I’ve learned is having patience and listening to your coworkers,” she says.
For people starting out in the industry, she encourages a mindset of curiosity and openness.
“Do your best and never feel embarrassed to ask any questions you may have. Team members are here to help.”
Kathy also believes the supportive workplace environment makes a real difference in the day-to-day experience.
“Everyone is pleasant to work with, and they listen to all employees,” she says.
Life Outside the Office
Outside of work, Kathy enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and unwinding with her favourite true crime shows. She’s also a proud dog lover, something many of her coworkers know well.
A Legacy of Dedication
Kathy’s career reflects the kind of dedication and reliability that form the backbone of Consentia’s work. Having witnessed the industry evolve over decades, from microfilm cameras to digital scanning and quality control, she brings valuable experience and perspective to every project she touches.
Her commitment to teamwork, patience, and doing the job right the first time mirrors the values that guide Consentia as a whole. Whether supporting her colleagues, keeping projects on track, or ensuring that clients receive high-quality results, Kathy’s work continues to make a lasting impact.
We’re proud to have Kathy as part of the Consentia team and grateful for the knowledge and experience she brings every day.
